Sophie called again a week later.
"I found his personal files." Her voice was different now—harder, with an edge of betrayal that Kai recognized all too well. "Hidden in his study, behind a false wall. He thought I didn't know the combination."
"What did you find?"
"Everything. Operations. Assassinations. Financial records." She paused. "And me. Files about me. My entire life, documented and analyzed. He's been monitoring me since I was a child."
"He was protecting you."
"He was controlling me. Making sure I never asked the wrong questions. Never met the wrong people." Sophie's laugh was bitter. "I thought he loved me. Maybe he does, in his way. But he never trusted me."
"What do you want to do about it?"
"I want him stopped. Not killed—I can't..." She trailed off. "But stopped. Exposed. Held accountable."
"That's what I want too."
"Then tell me how to help."
Kai looked at Yuki, who nodded slowly. They had discussed this possibility—Sophie as an asset, feeding information from inside The Surgeon's world.
"The files you found. Can you copy them?"
"Already done. I have everything on an encrypted drive."
"Can you get us more? Information about his current operations, his security protocols, his plans?"
"I can try. He trusts me—or he did. I don't know how long I can maintain the act." Sophie's voice wavered. "Every time I look at him now, I see the bodies. All those people."
"I know that feeling." Kai's voice softened. "It doesn't get easier. But it gets more familiar."
"Is that supposed to be comforting?"
"No. It's supposed to be honest." Kai paused. "You're doing something brave, Sophie. Something dangerous. I won't pretend otherwise."
"At least you're not lying to me. Everyone else lies."
"I've done terrible things. Killed more people than your father ever has. I'm not a hero in this story." Kai let that truth settle. "But right now, we're on the same side. That has to be enough."
Sophie was quiet for a moment. "How do I get you the files?"
"There's a dead drop location in Geneva. I'll send you the coordinates. Leave the drive there tomorrow at noon. We'll pick it up within the hour."
"And then?"
"And then we use what you've given us to make sure the world sees what your father really is."
"He'll know it came from me. Eventually."
"Eventually, yes. But by then, it won't matter. The truth will be out." Kai hesitated. "When that happens, when he realizes what you've done—you'll need to disappear. We can help with that."
"Disappear." Sophie laughed again—a fragile sound. "A week ago, my biggest worry was a philosophy exam. Now I'm planning to betray my father to fugitives and vanish into thin air."
"Life changes fast."
"Too fast." She took a breath. "Tomorrow at noon. I'll be there."
The line went dead.

Sophie's files were a goldmine.
Jin spent three days analyzing them, cross-referencing with their existing intelligence, building a comprehensive picture of The Surgeon's current operations.
"This is it," Jin announced, his exhaustion replaced by excitement. "This is everything we need. Financial connections, operational orders, personal communications. He's documented his own crimes in exhaustive detail."
"Why would he do that?"
"Because he's arrogant. He never expected anyone to get access." Jin shook his head. "The old Council kept similar records. They believed their own security was impenetrable."
"Until it wasn't."
"Until it wasn't." Jin pulled up a specific file. "But there's something more. According to these documents, Laurent is planning something major. A coordinated operation across six countries."
"What kind of operation?"
"Assassinations. Coordinated hits on political leaders who have been pushing for stricter oversight of intelligence agencies." Jin's expression darkened. "He's going to reshape the political landscape in his favor."
"When?"
"Three weeks. The operation is scheduled to coincide with a G20 summit." Jin met Kai's eyes. "If we release what we have now, we might be able to stop it."
"Or we might just delay it." Kai considered the options. "Laurent has proven he can adapt. If we expose his current plans, he'll adjust and try again."
"So what do you propose?"
"We don't just expose him. We destroy him." Kai's voice was cold. "We release everything—the files, the recordings, Sophie's testimony—at the worst possible moment. When he's committed, when there's no room to maneuver."
"The summit itself."
"The summit itself." Kai nodded. "World leaders gathered in one place, with security at maximum alert. If Laurent's operation is exposed mid-execution, there's no way to spin it. No way to claim it's fabricated. The evidence will be undeniable."
"And Laurent?"
"Laurent will either be arrested or he'll run. Either way, his public reformation is over. His allies will abandon him. His network will collapse." Kai's eyes hardened. "And we'll be waiting to make sure he doesn't escape."
The plan came together over the following days. Lin Mei and Viktor moved into position near the summit location. Yuki prepared extraction routes. Jin coordinated communication protocols.
And Kai prepared for the confrontation he had been building toward since waking up in that hospital.
The final battle was approaching.
One way or another, this war would end.
