Shiroi no Shikiyoku's domain was called the Garden of Endless Pleasure.

Mei Lin had spent three weeks preparing for this moment. Playing her role. Visiting Aoi. Spreading poison through the remaining demon lords' courts. Watching as suspicion and paranoia took root in minds that had trusted each other for millennia.

Now she returned to her father.

The Garden was beautiful. Impossibly so. Every surface was designed to please, every sight calculated to seduce, every sound tuned to draw you deeper into its embrace. Mei Lin felt the pull immediately. The desire to stay. To surrender. To let pleasure wash away everything else.

She had felt this pull her entire life.

It was almost comforting, in a twisted way.

"My daughter returns."

Shiroi materialized from the perfumed air. He was beautiful too, of course. His beauty was his power, the manifestation of Lust in its purest form. Every curve of his body, every angle of his face, every movement of his form was designed to provoke desire.

Mei Lin felt it. The attraction she had spent centuries trying to bury.

"Father."

"You've been busy." He circled her slowly, and she forced herself not to flinch. "Visiting Aoi. Speaking with my agents. Traveling with the cursed one who kills our kind."

"I've been preparing."

"Preparing for what, I wonder?" He stopped before her, close enough that she could feel the warmth radiating from his perfect skin. "Your reports suggest you've been helping him. Guiding him to his targets. Making yourself useful."

"Making myself indispensable." Mei Lin met his eyes. "So that when the time came, I would be positioned to strike."

"Strike at whom?"

"At your enemies. At the threats to your power." She held his gaze. "Kuro was weak. Obsessed with acquisition rather than true strength. Akane was unstable. Her rage would have eventually turned on you. Shinku was a schemer whose plots would have undermined your authority. And Murasaki was simply useless."

"You killed them for me?"

"I positioned them to die. The God-Eater did the killing." Mei Lin's voice was steady. "But he was just a weapon. My weapon. Used to clear the field before your inevitable ascension."

Shiroi's expression was unreadable. Then he laughed.

"Oh, my clever daughter. My beautiful, treacherous, ambitious daughter." He cupped her face in his hands, and the touch sent fire through her veins. "You think I don't know what you're doing? You think I can't see through your pretty lies?"

Mei Lin's heart froze. "Father?"

"You came here to kill me. Or to help the cursed one kill me. You've been planning this for centuries." His thumbs traced her cheekbones. "Did you really think I wouldn't know?"

"I."

"But here's the thing, my love." He pulled her closer, his lips nearly touching hers. "I don't care."

"You. What?"

"You've done exactly what I wanted. Positioned yourself. Gained the God-Eater's trust. Eliminated my weaker siblings." His smile was devastating. "You are my daughter, Mei Lin. My blood. My creation. Everything you've become, I made you."

"I made myself."

"Did you?" His eyes glittered with amusement. "Every manipulation you learned, I taught you. Every strategy you employed, I demonstrated first. Even your rebellion, your defiance, your burning need to destroy me. It's all exactly what I designed."

"That's not."

"I knew from the moment you were born that you would eventually try to kill me. So I raised you to be perfect for the attempt. Gave you just enough power to think you could succeed. Just enough hope to keep trying." He released her face and stepped back. "You are my finest creation, daughter. The weapon I forged to defeat myself."

Mei Lin felt the world spinning. Everything she'd believed. Every plan she'd made...

"Why?" she whispered. "Why would you want to be defeated?"

"Because I'm tired." For just a moment, something genuine flickered in those beautiful eyes. "Ten thousand years of endless desire. Endless pursuit. Endless consumption. Do you know what that does to a being? Even an immortal one?"

"You're saying. You want to die?"

"I'm saying I want something to finally satisfy me. Something that isn't more pleasure. More beauty. More desire." He spread his arms, encompassing his entire domain. "I've had everything, Mei Lin. Every experience. Every sensation. Every form of pleasure that exists or can be imagined. And none of it fills the void."

"So you created me. To end you."

"I created you to give me something I've never had. A genuine challenge. A true adversary. Someone whose hatred is pure enough to actually hurt me." His smile was almost tender. "You hate me so beautifully, daughter. So completely. It's the only real thing I've felt in millennia."

Mei Lin stared at her father. The monster who had destroyed her mother. The demon who had shaped her entire existence.

And he was telling her it was all part of his plan.

"What happens now?" she asked.

"Now? Now we wait for your lover to arrive." Shiroi returned to a throne that hadn't been there a moment ago. "He killed Murasaki, you know. I felt the dream lord's death from here. Four of the Seven, gone. Only Aoi and Midori and myself remain."

"And when he comes?"

"Then we'll see if you've learned enough. If your hatred is strong enough. If together, you can give me what I truly desire." He closed his eyes, radiating contentment. "A final sensation. Something that surprises even me."

"Your own death."

"Perhaps. Or perhaps something else. Something none of us have imagined yet." His eyes opened, and for just a moment, Mei Lin saw something ancient and exhausted behind the beautiful mask. "I've been alive so long, daughter. Show me something I haven't seen. Surprise me. That's all I ask."

Mei Lin felt the connection to Takeshi pulse in her chest. He was coming. She could feel him drawing closer.

And for the first time in her life, she didn't know what would happen next.

That, she realized, was exactly what her father wanted.
