The first mission came sooner than expected.

A universe at the edge of the multiverse was approaching awakening—and the multiverse chorus detected concerning patterns in its development.

*It is dominated,* they explained. *A civilization similar to your Architects has established control over most of its reality. If consciousness emerges under their influence, it will be a dark universe—aggressive, consumptive, dangerous to the greater community.*

"What can we do?" Jin asked.

*Intervene. Carefully. Help the beings within that universe find liberation before the cosmic awakening occurs. If consciousness emerges from freedom rather than control, the universe will be an ally rather than a threat.*

---

The team assembled was small but experienced.

Jin and Min-ji led, their understanding of liberation making them natural choices. The child joined, its fresh perspective potentially valuable for finding solutions that older consciousnesses might miss. And representatives from the multiverse chorus accompanied them, providing guidance and support.

Crossing into the target universe was disorienting. The rules were different—physics operated on altered principles, consciousness functioned through unfamiliar mechanisms. But the fundamental patterns were recognizable.

*Domination,* the child observed, perceiving the reality's structure. *Everything is organized for control. Species are ranked, potential is harvested, freedom is treated as a disease to be cured.*

"Just like home," Jin said grimly. "Before the liberation."

*But different too.* The child's perception was sharper than the adults'. *The dominant civilization here is more advanced than your Architects were. They've had longer to perfect their control.*

"Which means liberation will be harder."

*Or easier. More advanced systems have more complex failure points.* The child's presence flickered with something like excitement. *Where do we start?*

---

They found the anomalies first.

Every system of control produced exceptions—beings who didn't fit, who resisted classification, who existed outside the expected parameters. In Jin's universe, he'd been one of those anomalies. Here, there were others.

*They're called the Inverted,* a local consciousness explained through careful, hidden communication. *Beings whose abilities work backwards, whose development goes the wrong direction. The Dominators consider them defective.*

Jin felt something resonate in his cosmic nature. "I was called defective too."

*Then you understand. The Inverted are harvested when detected—their potential extracted before they can develop in directions the Dominators can't control. But some hide. Some survive.*

"Can you bring us to them?"

*It's dangerous. The Dominators monitor everything. Any unusual activity triggers investigation.*

"We'll be careful." Jin's presence hardened with determination. "We came here to help. Let us help."

---

The hidden community of Inverted was smaller than Jin had hoped—a few thousand beings scattered across a reality that contained billions. But they were passionate, determined, and desperate for guidance.

*You say you've seen liberation,* their leader communicated. The being was unlike anything Jin had encountered—a consciousness that existed in multiple contradictory states simultaneously. *You claim your universe is free. How?*

Jin shared memories of his descent, of the breaking of the Creator's prison, of the confederation's formation. The Inverted absorbed the information with hungry intensity.

*You were one of us,* the leader realized. *Negative levels. Working backwards. The principle is the same.*

"The principle is always the same." Jin felt hope kindling. "Control assumes everyone works the same way. Liberation comes when someone proves that assumption wrong."

*But we are few. The Dominators are vast. They control everything.*

"The Architects controlled everything too. Until they didn't." Min-ji's presence joined the communication. "Liberation doesn't require matching the oppressor's power. It requires undermining their assumptions."

*How?*

"That's what we're here to figure out. Together."

---

The planning took time—weeks in local duration that translated to instants in multiversal perception.

The Inverted's abilities, Jin discovered, were even more diverse than his own had been. Some reversed time locally, creating pockets where cause followed effect. Others inverted emotional states, turning love to hate and hate to love with a touch. Still others existed in negative dimensions, occupying spaces that shouldn't be possible.

Each ability was a crack in the Dominators' control—a violation of the principles that their system depended on.

*The key is coordination,* the child suggested. *Your abilities are powerful individually, but they're more powerful together. If you all act simultaneously, in complementary directions...*

"A synchronized inverse assault," Jin realized. "Like the Collective's coordinated descent."

*But adapted for this universe's physics.* The child's perception was working faster than the adults'. *I can see it. The weak points, the connections, the moments where small actions would cascade into large effects.*

"Show us."

The child shared its vision—a complex web of interventions, each one small on its own, but together forming a pattern that could destabilize the Dominators' control.

*This could work,* the Inverted leader said slowly. *But the cost would be high. Many of us would be detected. Destroyed.*

"Liberation always costs something," Jin replied. "The question is whether the cost is worth the gain."

*For us, yes. We have nothing to lose.* The leader's resolve hardened. *For you—you're risking yourselves for a universe that isn't your own. Why?*

"Because no one helped us when we were in your position." Jin's presence burned with ancient struggle. "We had to find our own way. But now we can help others find theirs. That's what liberation means—not just freeing yourself, but making sure no one else has to fight alone."

The Inverted absorbed this, their contradictory consciousnesses processing the concept.

*Then we fight together,* the leader said finally. *For liberation. For freedom. For a universe that doesn't have to be controlled.*

Jin felt the familiar thrill of it—scattered resistance finding its purpose.

The liberation of a new universe was beginning.
